Friday, April 30, 2027 · Grand Hyatt San Francisco
The opening day of the MOLA 2027 Conference (April 30–May 3), hosted by the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Ballet and San Francisco Opera. Produced by NYC Music Services; presented by MOLA: An Association of Music Performance Librarians.

Davies Symphony Hall, San Francisco
Davies Symphony Hall, home of the San Francisco Symphony

What it is

A one-day program for performance librarians and the people who build their tools, organized around the life of a score: where music comes from, how it becomes performance material, and how it is kept for the future. Exhibits run alongside the program on Friday and continue through the full conference.

  1. From Source to Score — AI transcription and optical music recognition, tested on real material.
  2. From Score to Stand — preparing parts musicians can play from: proofreading, layout, page turns, cues, bowings.
  3. The Long Game — formats, standards and preservation, the rights and copyright questions that come with them, and shared responsibility.
  4. The Unanswered Question — a structured close built from the questions raised during the day.

Sessions are about 50 minutes, with generous time on the exhibit floor between them. The day runs roughly 10:00 am to 4:00 pm; exact times will be posted with the program.

Librarians: help shape the day

Tell us what would make the day worth your time. Any or all of these, by January 31, 2027, to mola@nycmusicservices.com:

  1. What part of your work takes more time than it should?
  2. Where do you still rely on a manual workaround, even though you suspect a better tool exists?
  3. What would you most like to see demonstrated live, using real material?
  4. What’s working well for you, or what are you good at, that colleagues should hear about? Volunteers for panels are welcome.
  5. Which company, project, or person would you most like to meet at the Fair?

Individual responses are kept confidential; only themes are shared.
