MOLA Music Technology Exchange

Meet the people behind the tools, explore what’s possible, and bring your experience to the discussion.
Friday, April 30, 2027 · Grand Hyatt San Francisco
The MOLA Music Technology Exchange (formerly the Tech Fair) opens the MOLA 2027 Conference (April 30–May 3), hosted by the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Ballet and San Francisco Opera. Produced by NYC Music Services; presented by MOLA: An Association of Music Performance Librarians.

What it is
A one-day exchange between performance librarians and the people who build their tools. Librarians bring the expertise of their daily work; the people making the tools want to hear from them. The day is organized around the life of a score: where music comes from, how it becomes performance material, and how it is kept for the future. Exhibits run alongside the program on Friday and continue through the full conference.
- From Source to Score — AI transcription and optical music recognition, tested on real material.
- From Score to Stand — preparing parts musicians can play from: proofreading, layout, page turns, cues, bowings.
- The Long Game — formats, standards and preservation, the rights and copyright questions that come with them, and shared responsibility.
- The Unanswered Question — a structured close built from the questions raised during the day.
Sessions are about 50 minutes, with generous time on the exhibit floor between them. There are no scheduled product demos: exhibitors are available all day, and the questions raised on the floor feed the closing session. The day runs roughly 10:00 am to 4:00 pm; exact times will be posted with the program.
